The American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program is designed to teach people how to be safe in, on or around water and to teach individuals of different ages and abilities how to swim in a positive aquatic learning environment.  The six learning levels teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in a logical progression.  In the six levels, participants build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements on the front, back and side.  As the levels increase, participants learn to refine the different strokes and build endurance.  Each level includes exit skills assessments that put together many of the skills learned in the level.

The six levels are:
  • Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it.
  • Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills.
  • Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.
  • Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Kids will gain confidence during swim lessons, improve their stroke and gain additional aquatic skills.
  • Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Guidance allows kids to refine their strokes and become more efficient swimmers.
  • Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency: Students will learn to swim with ease and efficiency, and gain the ability to swim smoothly over greater distances. Swimmers will also have the option to participate in more advanced courses.
Goggles are highly suggested for levels 3-6 and can be used in levels 1 & 2 once the child has shown they are comfortable putting their face in the water. (Example: they put their face in the water twice without goggles they can wear their goggles the rest of class). DIVE MASKS (has a nose covering) are NOT permitted in lessons!

Swim Lessons are only offered one session at a time and run year round! Registration for the next session will open midway through the previous session (especially in the snowy months the lessons will open up later to help accommodate weather cancellations in the schedule).

If the class your looking for is full it is always a good idea to add your child to the wait list and we will try to accommodate as much as possible depending on available staff!
